Rini Dhumal was born in 1948 in Bengal.

In 1972 she completed her M. A. in Fine Arts from Faculty of Fine Arts, M. S. University, Baroda.

She had several solo shows:
In 1983 exhibited solo at Gallery Chemould, Mumbai. In 1985 she had a solo at University Austral de Chile, Valdivia. In 1987 she exhibited solo at Dhoomimal Gallery, New Delhi.n 1987, 1992 and 1995 she had solo exhibitions at Gallery 7, Mumbai. In 1991, 1992 and 1998 she exhibited solo at Sakshi Gallery in Chennai and Bangalore. In 1993 she had a solo exhibition at Galerie Brita Printz, Madrid. In 1997 she had a solo show at Cymroza Gallery, Mumbai. In 1999 she exhibited solo at NID, Ahmedabad. In 2000 and 2002 she exhibited solo at Fine Art Company, Mumbai; Gallery Sumukha, Bangalore and Tao Art Gallery, Mumbai. In 2006 and 2013 she showcased ‘Tales of the Prophetess’ and 'The Japanese Wife and Other Tales' at Art Alive Gallery, New Delhi. In 2008 and 2010 her shows 'Of Mortal, Mythic and Divine' and 'Rooted Landscapes' were exhibited at Gallery Sanskriti, Kolkata; Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai and Tao Art Gallery, Mumbai.

She participated in several group shows:
In 1975 she participated in the Print Biennale in France. In 1976 she took part in the Print Biennale in Madrid. In 1979 she took part in the Sixth British International Print Biennale in England. In 1984 and 1987 she participated in the Print Biennale, Berlin. In 1985 and 1993 she participated in group shows at Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai. In 1986 she took part in ‘Graphics Since 1965’ at Lalit Kala Academy, Chennai. In 1989 she participated at the Print Biennales in Cuba and Yugoslavia. In 1990, 1993 and 1997 she took part in group shows at Sakshi Art Gallery, Chennai and Cymroza Art Gallery, Mumbai. In 1991 she took part in the Print Biennales in Turkey, Germany and Taiwan. In 1992 she participated in ‘Nest for Sparrow’ at Artists’ Centre, Mumbai. In 1993, 1994, 1997 and 2009 she took part in various group shows in New Delhi. In 1997, 1999, 2005 and 2006 she participated in group shows in London, New York and Singapore. In 2006 she took part in 'Drawing Show an Act of Art II' at Priyasri Art Gallery, Mumbai. In 2012 she took part in 'An Alternative Perspective' at CIMA, Kolkata.

She has received many awards:
In 1972 she received the Chancellor's Gold Medal. In 1974 she received Governors Gold Medal in Kolkata. In 1973 she won a 2 year Government of India Cultural Scholarship. She worked under Prof. K. G. Subramanyan. In 1975 she won a French Government Scholarship to work under S. W. Hayter & Krishna Reddy. In 1985 she won an award from AIFACS, New Delhi. In 1988 she won a national award from Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi and she won the M. S. Randhawa award from AIFACS, New Delhi.

She lives in Vadodara.
