Indrapramit Roy

Indrapramit Roy was born in 1964 in Kolkata.

In 1987 he completed his Bachelor in Fine Arts in Print-Making from Kala Bhavan at Santiniketan, West Bengal. In 1989 he completed his Masters in Fine Arts in Painting from M. S. University, Baroda. In 1992 he completed his Masters in Arts in Painting from Royal College of Art, London.

He has had several solo shows:
In 1990 he had a solo exhibition at Centre for Contemporary Arts, New Delhi. In 1993 he had a solo show at Gallery 7, Mumbai and Alliance Francaise in Madras. In 1994 he had a solo show ‘Invisible Cities’ at Gallery 88, Kolkata. In 1996 he exhibited ‘Invisible Cities’ at Gallery 7, Mumbai. In 1997 he had a solo show, ‘Meanderings' at Gallery 7, Mumbai and at the Faculty of Fine Arts Gallery, Baroda. In 1998 and 2001 he exhibited solo in ‘Ring-a-Ring-a-Roses' at Artcore Gallery, Baroda and Sakshi Gallery, Bangalore. In 2004, 2005 and 2006 he had his solo show, ‘This, That and Everything’ exhibited at Usdan Gallery in Bennigton, USA; at Gallery 808 in Philadelphia, USA and at Anant Art Gallery in New Delhi. In 2007 he exhibited ‘Indrapramit Roy: The Texture of the Drift’ at Aicon Gallery, Palo Alto.

He has participated in several group exhibitions:
In 1989, 1991, 1992, 1995 and from 1996 - 2002 he took part in multiple group shows in London, Kolkata, New Delhi, Baroda, Kochi, Berlin, Mumbai, Melbourne and Perth. In 2001 he participated in Art of Bengal (1850-2000) at National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) Mumbai and Centre for International Modern Art (CIMA), Kolkata. In 2002 he took part in group shows at Nazar Art Gallery, Baroda and at Nehru Centre, Mumbai. From 2003–2006 he participated in various group shows in Baroda, New Delhi, Ahmedabad, New York, Kolkata and Mumbai. In 2003 he took part in Affordable Art at Kanoria Centre For Art in Ahmedabad and participated in Contemporary Art Show at the Faculty Art Gallery in Baroda. In 2004 he participated in Remembering Bhupen at Tao Art Gallery, Mumbai. In 2005 he took part in 100 Contemporary Indian Artists at Gallery Art Resource Trust, Mumbai. In 2005 he participated in Concepts and Ideas at CIMA in Kolkata. In 2009 he took part in ‘Threshold: Forging Narratives in South Asian Contemporary Art’ at Aicon Gallery in New York.

He has received several awards:
From 1989-1990 he received a fellowship in creative painting from Kanoria Centre for Arts in Ahmedabad. From 1990-1992 he received the Inlaks Fellowship for 2 Years to Study at Royal College of Art, London; he received Erasmus Exchange Scholarship to Study in Berlin. He also received the Burston Award. In 1991 he received an award from Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank. From 1994-1996 he received the Junior Fellowship in Visual Art from Ministry of HRD from Government of India. From 2004-2005 he received the Fulbright Artist-in-Residence Fellowship to study at Bennington College, Vermont and University of the Arts, Philadelphia. In 2005 he won a travel grant from Getty Museum, Los Angeles.

Indrapramit lives and works in Baroda.
