Ganesh Haloi

Ganesh Haloi was born in 1936 in Jamalpur, Bangladesh.

In 1956 he received his degree from the Government College of Art and Craft, Kolkata. From 1957 to 1963, Haloi stayed and worked at Ajanta Caves. In 1964 he joined an art college in Kolkata as a lecturer.

Haloi had many solo exhibitions:
In 1962 he had his first solo at Artistry House, Kolkata. In 2000 and 2007 he exhibited solo in Mumbai. In 2006 and 2007 he had solo exhibitions in Kolkata. In 2006 he exhibited solo at Aicon Gallery, New York. In 2011, Haloi had a solo exhibition in New Delhi. In 2013 he exhibited solo in Dhaka.

Haloi participated in several group shows in India and overseas:
In 1967, 1979 and 1987 he participated in a group shows at Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata. From 1971-1995 he participated in Contemporary of Indian Artists, Kolkata. From 1967-1995 he participated in group exhibitions at Birla Academy of Art and Culture, Kolkata and All India Fine Arts and Crafts Society, New Delhi. In 1980, Haloi took part in ‘Four Contemporary Artists of West Bengal’ in Kolkata. In 1987 -1989, 1992, 1994 - 1997, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2008 he participated in group shows in Kolkata. In 1991 he showcased in a group show in Melbourne. In 1992 he participated in a group exhibition at Alliance Francaise, New Delhi. In 1993 he participated in ‘Wounds’ at NGMA, New Delhi and Kolkata and participated in a group show at Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai. In 1994 he took part in a group show in Hong Kong. In 1995 he showcased in a group show at Bose Pacia Modern, New York. In 1998 he participated in a group show in Chennai. In 2005 he had a joint show ‘As Within So Without’ with Prabhakar Kolte in Mumbai. In 2010 - 2011 he exhibited at Aicon Gallery, London. In 2005, 2006 and 2011 he participated in group shows in New Delhi and Kuala Lumpur. In 2006 he took part in a group show in Munich. In 2007 he participated in a group exhibition at Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai. In 2009-2010 he participated in ‘Discerning Form’ at Aicon Gallery, New York. In 2008 he showcased in a group show ‘Moderns’ at Royal Culture Centre, Amman, Jordan. In 2012 he took part in a group show in Mumbai.

Haloi has won several awards:
From 1953 - 1955 he won silver medals, Kolkata University. In 1956 he received the gold medal from Government College of Art, Kolkata. In 1955 - 1957, 1963, 1964, 1966 and 1970 he won gold medals from Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata. He was conferred the Siromani Puraskar by the Rabindra Bharati University.

Haloi lives and works in Kolkata.
